Bargain Eating Tips Make Cheap Meals and Food Banks in Orange County, CA

Depression like status reaches across the US, in Orange County, California you don't always notice. Mom's chatting through the windows of their SUV's while they pick up there kids in the school parking lot line. Commenting on gorgeous weather and their bedroom's ocean view. The Shops at Mission Viejo, The Laguna Hills Mall, South Coast Plaza, The Irvine Spectrum all still busy with hustling sales rack shoppers and big spenders, some with overdue credit card bills.

Even still, a closer look behind the scenes is the children needing free lunches, though they don't feed those on a strict or special diets. Another even closer look, before you drive by that corner and tell yourself not to glance over, or better yet, please glance over and know that the reward is in the giver... A family on the corner sitting together asking for a little help or work. Or the man with a suitcase and a bottle of Windex outside or Wal-mart. Does my 1-20 bucks really help much? I send it off with a prayer. I give with a whole heart, how it is spent is left on them.

So now you know in the really real OC with overpriced rents, even in low income homes, and high sales tax, yes, even glorified Orange County beach cities have poor and even desperate folks. Plus the hungry young ones just starting out on life trying to balance their budgets... these tips and food lists are for all of you. A nifty little article I found on Depression style eating- good read with tips on making food stretch; good staple foods for those on a tight budget. I have also added some information on Food Banks in Orange County, California.

If you don't need extra food, would you consider on donating to the food banks listed here? Keep in mind there are many people with food allergies and special diets that have a hard time finding food they too can eat, think outside peanut butter and wheat, think of other staple foods: Natural Foods, almond butter, raisins, gluten-free (non-wheat) noodles, and canned meats.

Season 6 The Final Season with a Finale leaving us into purgatory like phase into light ending. The fans want more answers, maybe out with a bang? Or Island life? Many Fans disappointed in the LOST Finale. LOST The Movie =more answers, box office Hit! How about LOST Is It The End? Comments Welcome.
5-24-2010
Here I go, my thoughts on LOST the Final Season Finale... Beautiful, bittersweet and what!?! Let me be blunt here. Who else wants to know more about all the LOST Characters and all the DHARMA purpose/correlation? So happy I got to see somethings I missed, Charlie for one, John Locke's faithful smile, Kate and Jack's love, James and Juliet's love... and an understanding ending of... the life, before the end of life, of the random connections between each other and a journey how to get to "the other side". Sounds bittersweet and written well. But, come on! I saw it going a different way... I so want to write! (Hire me someone! An amature here but well willing to pour out an awesome show!)

LOST... the definition now is told. LOST: Trying to get to the next dimension of life after death; resolving our inner-conflict first, on a path with those we were connected with (who also died?) before we can move on.  Most of them moved on together. Now that we understand, do we really? Are we lost with LOST? Unanswered questions still. Mysteries are good even left mysteriously, though somethings seem to have lost their meaning with the finale. When, where did each character die, how exactly? Plane crash? Island explosion? Remember Hurley stating, we're dead... it was true?! Or was it? Hurley's tricked by voices theory at that time. The story was not leading in that direction at that time. With a twist of fate, LOST decided, yes, that's how we are going out, an eye closes and a door of light. It's a show though! Do what you want... they don't have to die, even if I get why they did; I am lost on how they did.

So after the ending has sunk in, this is what I think about the ending: The island experiences was real life... when ever each of them died, we weren't told when or how they ended up together in a place that has no time. I get that. Remember, the sideways wasn't real (Jack has no son) the life after death place before they moved on... fictional of course but interesting twist... I still wanted more details though and they still could end up on the island together! Heavenly! or a twist of fate again... now that they figured themselves out, all but Ben... they have more work to do? Man in Black is not gone maybe? ...etc give us a sequel LOST!

We can't change the ending but for fun, here's what I wanted from the ending (briefly put):
All the instances on the island would change through Jack. About everything could have been kept the same with an alternate ending (haven't seen them yet- if there is any seriously considered ones that is).
My alternate ending #1: The island stays, the rumbling stopped. Kate and Sawyer swim to the boat, Hurley and Ben see "Locke- Man in Black" dead on the cliff. Then see Jack from afar... Jack's eye closes. Island flash of light. Back in California: Jack walks into the church, there all his island friends are reunited... Eloise, Faraday, and Desmond smile as they turn a wheel hidden in the church basement. Scene church: they all know and smile as a flash of light.. wooohhoomm boom poof! Sends them back to the island, this time, Jack and Hurley smile and they are back on the beach,  Ben even could be pondering, staring out in the water in a self-descovering way.  Everyone like old times (just no more DHARMA or Smoke Monster) They saved the world. The are once again eating mangoes hugging, kissing, and all that good stuff! Hooray right?!
-OR-
My ending #2: Kate and Sawyer swim to the boat, Hurley and Ben see "Locke- Man in Black" dead on the cliff. Then see Jack from afar. The island's "plug" cracks and once again the island rumbles and begins to sink. Hurley and Ben begin to swim to the boat... Jack closes his eye.  Like the ending  they showed us with John, then Hurley going to the church, talking to Ben, he is redeemed in the end and forgiven, he too goes in. Jack walks into the church, there, all his island friends are reunited including Eloise and Charles Widmore. Jack is in the room with the casket: Jack's opens his eyes, after all the flashbacks, and sees his father's empty casket, then talks with him, and his father leaves to the light... Jack walks out of the room. Sees everyone, now with all memories- just like everyone now has, knowing each other with a new prospective of life with their sideways life... it closes with warm embraces.

What do you think??

Unanswered Questions... come one writers, we love you... but, what's up with this?  LOST Answers! So if we can't ask for a redo.... please all of you, ask for a LOST movie! I purpose reunite all the characters! Some up the unanswered... DHARMA what did that have to do with anything? Some more Widmore information, and Faraday calculations? Where did Kate and Sawyer jump off into the water to? Hurley and Ben left on the island? Those in the plane? Ben is not ready in the sideways (afterlife plave)? Still seems like a lost going on that I'd like to know about. Give us some more details for a summary of events in a movie LOST... I am sure it can be done somehow... it would be a major major box office hit!! I can help write it? Kidding... but you know I'd love to.

Feel free to comment your alternate endings and desires: ie LOST the Movie!? Did you like the finale? Like my alternate endings? (html welcomed; keep it modest and clean though; thanks.)

DHARMA Initiative aka Octagon Research Solutions ?

The real DHARMA Initiative. If you don't already know about this (LOST did  a take on them for the tv show)- then read on..

If you haven't seen my other DHARMA blog see it first, especially if you are not aware of the DHARMA or Hanso Foundation (founder of DHARMA): http://alysagoodstuff.blogspot.com/2010/05/lost-spin-on-real-dharma-hanso.html

This blog site has good real DHARMA information including videos (some  videos aren't truth so look here and see for yourself, this person listed pretty accurately and has a couple posts, some for the tv show too) http://www.squidoo.com/jointhedharmainitiative

When I viewed the blog above and other blogs I noted in my blog post, I noticed information about the Hanso Foundation (DHARMA Initiative founder) videos, commercials, stuff I didn't notice or realize that my favorite tv show was based on a real scientific experimental foundation, really! Anyway, the one above, I saw in 2008 they were possibly recruiting under the name: "Octagon Global Recruiting" well I googled and all websites regarding DHARMA, Ocrtagon Global Recruiting gone and even for the Hanso Foundation also gone. So I decided to do another search, I typed in Octagon recruit and found Job listings just recently posted at http://www.startuphire.com/search/?Search=Advanced&companyname[]=Octagon+Research+Solutions&k=c . Then I went to the website listed for Octagon Research Solutions, Inc.: (page titled "Who we are") The information quoted below is from their web page: http://www.octagonresearch.com/who-we-are.html

Okay, so here is the details as seen on the site for Octagon Research. The company started "in 1999 as a development partnering organization", they provide regulatory services to the life sciences industry. They have an Octagon symbol within the logo... DHARMA? They do clinical data collection. The site says, "Presently, Octagon has four strategic lines of business that include
Regulatory, Clinical, Process Consulting and Software solutions. Our
offerings combine people, process and technology to provide complete
capabilities to our valued clients."

The site also says: "The Octagon Team has developed “Octagon's Eight Rules of Thumb” that guide our actions and foster an entrepreneurial culture across the
organization. The Rules of Thumb are an integral part of our daily
activities. Because they are so important, the rules can be seen
throughout our various locations and have been incorporated into our
recruiting processes. We encourage entrepreneurial thinking and reward
execution toward our corporate goals.

Octagon’s Eight Rules of Thumb

  • We develop a solution rather than present a problem
    when confronted with an issue.

  • Everything we do, we do on time and to our highest
    standard; what we deliver
reflects on us and the company.

  • We are people with passion, a sense of urgency, and
    self-confidence.

  • We recruit “smart” people with high personal standards
    and a bias for action.

  • We seek people to enrich our culture, not reinvent it.

  • We understand that every client interaction affects
    our growth and success.

  • We service the clients, community and each other with
    commitment and integrity.

  • In order to be successful at Octagon we all need an
    entrepreneurial mindset."

  • ahh humm, Sounds like DHARMA Initiative to me!? What do you all think?

Earthquake again, Mexico California Border 4.5 May 18, 2010

Interesting... Last night I had a dream. A short dream, my home was shaking, really shaking and I knew it was an earthquake, I gathered children, and then I could hear right before going out the front door, as though the Lord was telling me, "Be prepared, don't wait..." and more; I remember mostly prepare. I woke up after that. I think now more so it was about prayer and not being caught off guard, but ready. I more and more these days feel that a larger earthquake will come again sooner rather than later, as it is obvious to us Cali residents, "long over-due". I felt today I was going to see something about an earthquake on the news... sure enough today on abc 11pm "Earthquake in the South-land" Not too big a 4.5, 3s, and 2s. Many earthquakes in the general area. Especially Mexico.
See the latest clickable map (you may need to refresh page to see accurate current earthquake map): http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqscanv/FaultMaps/116-33.html

Pray as always we should, safe from harm.. God bless, amen.  :)
See my other earthquake blog search earthquake while on my site. Good night/day all!

LOST Spin on the Real DHARMA, Hanso Foundation!? Plus LOST Party Tips

In this blog... For LOST Fans DHARMA and Hanso Information and
Tips For Throwing a LOST Beach or DHARMA Party

Yeah okay, I know I am sort of obsessing about LOST, but it's the last Final Season finale (May 23)!
ps Watch LOST Tuesday 5-18-10 to get code to text in a farewell to LOST: http://abc.go.com/shows/lost/farewell-text ((Anyone get the code?)) - Currently, text in 8607 now to get 10 exclusive messages during the Season Finale.

In case you are someone like me and didn't know... The plots of D.H.A.R.M.A. trying to save the world, trying life experiments- it is for real! (I know a lot of you LOST Fans are way ahead of me on this)... Hanso Foundation real. The television show LOST made a spin off of these very real connected organizations. Still a bit confused though about them though. LOST/abc created "Mysteries of the Universe" episodes that seemed real, but then states that it is fiction. Just wonder what truths resemble the actual DHARMA Initiative?

FYI: DHARMA's association with Indian religions such as Buddah etc ie the symbols etc you see on LOST, even the numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42 have a DHARMA correlation. I only touched the surface of figuring out the hidden things in here, but the plot of LOST is about good and evil, it is about experiments, and most of all mystery! Excited to find out the end...?

About the real DHARMA: Department of Heuristics And Research on Material Applications, Financial supporter: Alvar Hanso; Mystery?... So much confusion after investigating it... somethings real some not.

I believe this is the real original DHARMA video (Uploaded September 2006) It almost does not seem real but? Especially the ending seemed staged. But, the interview with the Hanso Foundation below does give some truth there too. You will see other videos listed here some not so sure about but check this out for whatever it's worth. Than watch the interview video also below with Hugh McIntire Hanso foundation who tells you more information about what they are about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PPCCcXarkc

Jimmy Kimmel Live Video interview with Hugh McIntire from Hanso Foundation (Uploaded May 2006): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MN4_kXzqO9I

Google Map: Micronesia is the location of this 4.815 162.342 (Similar to 4 8 15 16 23 42). Search for fun Micronesia too. Wikipedia also lists information. This is located near Australia.

Think about what theme suits what you want: Beach island theme or DHARMA Initiative theme?
Picking one theme sets the stage for a more genuine LOST feel.

    Island Beach Theme:
    • Inexpensive palm trees can be placed on walls, I found some at a 99 cents store. Though,  I caution you to stray away from luau theme, especially blow up palm trees unless your throwing a pool party.
    • Hibiscus Flower clips for decor or guests: Oriental Trading Hibiscus Flower Clips
    • Small tropical or ocean scented candles: I found some in mini jars for $1 at Wal-mart
    • Buy some poster board and light brown raffia glue onto poster board for cheap doorway island tent feel. Or check BIG LOTS, 99 Cents Store, or here: Oriental Trading Raffia Island Door Curtains: $6
    • Glue raffia on the middle edge of wear the table edge will be a $1 plastic table cloth in brown or green (leaving enough room for the tablecloth to drop down under the raffia). Check discount stores or Tropical Table Skirt 9 ft $10

    • Beach Back drop for inside parties:
    • Ortl. Trading Trop. Beach Banner 9ft $15,

Once Again I am a Cat Lady... Woman! Coyote Howled, Cat at my Porch

People start to think I am a Cat Lady... I prefer Cat Woman.

    5-16-2010
Baby Boy Orange Kitty... Stray I met today

I got up early today, birds chirping, about 5:30am. I made some decaf coffee (caffeinated only some mornings) with a sprinkle of sugar and a dash of milk, and poured myself some gluten free granola. I was going to go online when suddenly, my 2 kitties and I hear a howling outside. My Tommy cat runs to the slider door with me. We see an adorable orange tabby outside, just a little guy must be maybe, 1 or 2 years old. Oh no I think. I open the door and he meows loudly so I shushed him, in case a coyote is around. I go get my robe and socks on and think, 'What am I doing?' as I went out the door to find the poor guy. With my cat call, 3 pucker sounds, kiss, kiss, kiss. And don't see him. Then again. A faint meow, meow, meow... So after a little look around, I see him. Poor guy, he is timid but friendly. He meows loudly, I can imitate cat calls pretty well, he said, "Mauuurruooo" and came over towards me rolling in the rain gutter by the parked cars in the middle of the parking lot, just like my Johnny cat does. So I gently let him smell my hand and pet him, "Mauuurruooo, mauuurruooo." Really trying to tell me something. He was dirty, with dried muddy paws and black spot on his neck, and a sore on his nose. After I think I gained his trust, I picked him up... nope that didn't work. I had to put him back down... careful with strays. So I try to guide him to my home, that wasn't working. I don't think he belongs to anyone here, or if he does he has been outside far too much, and seemed very much on his own. He was jumpy at every noise, as a truck started... when a crow flew overhead, "Caaw".

I wanted to help him. I went home and got some of my cat's food into an old baby bowl, and went out to find him. He saw me but kept going... I caught up. He came over to me again talking and rolling. He passed on the food. Hmm, he must have eaten something, somewhere already. Bunny? Is someone feeding him? Poor guy. He sprays a bush and checks a tree, I can tell he is not neutered. I follow him and try to pick him up one more time and he turns and hisses. I understand. He walks away. He's going the wrong way, but I realize, that is the life he knows. He still seems on guard while he walks. Bye baby orange kitty. I feel sad for you, who didn't care for you? Did you get lost, or were you left? I hated walking back home unable to help. I prayed for baby orange kitty.

Please adopt and save a pet.  Remember to neuter/spay your pets too.

     -----------------------------------------

My Johnny Cat aka John John

My cats were also abandoned or left stray. My August baby Johnny (Tabby, Domestic Short-hair, Maine Coon) was left at an apartment after his original owners moved, as I was told by my friends who brought him home. He was so big! He was a little afraid hiding in some plants. He had gotten out of her home and I was looking for his owner; this is actually how I met my friends. They were planning on taking him to the shelter. I had a baby at the time and was unsure about having an animal yet, though I wanted one (I grew up having had and adored my cats, who have passed that is for another blog). I urged a couple family members, but they didn't want to take in a cat at the time or the financial costs of having one. I felt heartbroken for him. I suddenly noticed on my cat calender that my grandmother gave me, a cat with a face staring right at me, that looked so much like this cat! I want him, maybe he is my cat! I mentioned my want to my new friend. I knew he would be a sweetheart, as I had seen him in a bonnet that my friend's daughter had him dressed in. It was adorable... poor big kitty (15 lbs big). He must be a sweetie. They so kindly gave him to me!
For almost two weeks, he ate and then hid under my bed. I knew he had to adjust and I think he was depressed. Then one night out of nowhere, he was comfortable. He is a big cat so I was a bit startled... he ran in my living room and attacked my rug, lifting up the corners. Though it surprised me, I realized he is playing! Funny boy. I could see finally, he is getting comfortable and trusting me. To this day he is so loyal to me. Based on his personality over the past few years now, I think maybe he was left alone a lot with no other animals... I think he spent most of his time eating and little attention. He does not play a lot, and he is only cuddly in his own time, he loves to eat! But, I don't over feed him. Morning, little extra mid-day snack and dinner, that's it. It's not good to leave too much food out. He likes to play tag/hide and seek. We hide around the corner, he finds. He hides, we find him... tag! Johnny runs. So much fun. Outside, during safer, mid-day sunny hours he lounges in the sun. This is where he lets me cradle him like a big baby rocking side to side. A tree scratch, he looks so awesome and tall. He rolls all around for a belly scratch and plays in the leafy brush a little. I share some sun time with him, but he likes it for hours. I keep my eye out for him. Any animal outside, you have to train and guard too. He knows the parking lot is.. No No.
He is the king of the house, and he is not afraid of small dogs. Yesterday, he leaped and attacked my new neighbor's little dog when it came up to my door investigating and barking at Tommy, then Johnny went in front of the dog, he was going to go inside.. I thought. Instead he was guarding... Johnny didn't back down, he jumped on the poor dog as his owner came over trying to stop her dog. My sweet cat charged! Whoa, I have never seen Johnny look so big and awesome... like National Geographic stuff! I had some water in my hand and splashed it on them trying to stop Johnny. Poor neighbor, I splashed water right on her. Then my Johnny jumped up at the dog in her arms grabbing her leg. He is a gentle loving boy... but he is tough!! Poor neighbor. Her leg was okay. We laughed after. "Sorry about my dog" "Sorry my cat attacked you and I throw water at you". Not a usual way to get to know your new neighbor. Oh the joy of animals. Johnny investigated outside a little... fluffed up with a mohawk. And the little doggy (half Johnny's size) growled peering down from his stairs. Now they are aware of the other's new presence.  Even my Tommy has to deal with the Johnny's the boss factor. But they love each other I think, and Johnny plays with him... only when he wants though.

Cheap and Free Lost Party Fun
Apollo Bars, download print (from link above), cut. Use Trader Joes ($1.79 pack of 3) or other small milk chocolate bar around 2 ounces 4-5 inches; foil wrapped bars or wrap your chocolate bar in foil. Remove the package label, and wrap Apollo label, applying a tiny bit of glue along edge and on little white rectangle. Voila. ps fun tip: these bars make for excellent place to stash lottery scratchers if you want to surprise some or all of your guests. Just carefully slip one under the Apollo wrapper.

DHARMA Beer Labels can be used on bottles or cans, even for root beer (hansen's Natural Creamy root beer). Mr. Cluck's Chicken Bucket Wraps can be used as place mats too. Remember an inexpensive tip, clear packing tape makes for a quick and easy waterproof surface or clear contact paper for any of your labels.

Updated: 2 Year Old? Gray Whale Lilly has Died 100-150 Pounds Net Removed Dana Point Harbor California May 12-14, 2010

She was entangled by 100-150 pounds of net.

What a beautiful site to have witnessed. My family and I were praying for the poor whale, who they are now calling a she- "Free Lilly". She is now believed to be out to sea again after almost 3 days in the Dana Point Harbor in Southern Orange County California. Go Lilly!

Day 4. Oh no... he or she returned again just outside the harbor. I think the poor whale needs some food. They said they can't feed "Lilly"  ;) that they are bottom feeders. Come on!! Drop some food to the bottom floor then! This whale has been left behind and hunger has most likely set in. Please lord, guide the poor whale. Sea World help more please! Lilly was found dead around 4pm today. People were weary when the did not spot her as they have all week since Monday. Her body was found at Doheny State Beach, in Dana Point adjacent to the harbor. Some believed her to be juvinal age about 2 years, others apparently thought 25 or 60 years old.

    Lilly IS Free

A message whale.. what is her message? Maybe once caught in a fishers net and let free, maybe she escaped the nets that entangled her. Lilly, you brought together a lot of people, you showed us how cruel we are to our waters, to those that inhabit it. I hope we humans think more about the trash we throw... landing eventually in rain gutters, our clutter washed down, the litter we stuff in the sand. Thank you for letting us know you. May she swim in the waters of heaven now? I pray she may. Good bye.
