If I were on a Desert Island and had 2 Cosmetics to keep with me: Mascara and Lip Gloss

Organics Coconut Lip Tint
For most women, make-up is a must have, and to men that don't like make-up, on women that is, they do, they just don't always know when it's applied lightly and naturally, that it's on. They might actually think it's "no make-up". For me my eyelashes are light, but when I apply mascara, viola, I can see the long length. Some mascara brushes and actual mascara itself helps to extend the length. I came across something I'd like to try, but haven't yet. I like products that are natural, or at least mostly natural, that assist my "beautifying" efforts. If you have tried this let me know, it's called iQ Derma SmartLash Eyelash Enhancer. I'd like to really know if this is a Good Stuff product. It is lower cost at a site online called Dermstore. The testimonies claim longer lashes in at most up to 8 weeks. It's supposed to be used for people with thinning eyelashes or to avoid breakage and increase length. It can be used on eyebrows to thicken them too. It is hormone free (prostaglandin-free) so no dangerous side effects and is  ophthalmologist approved for contact lens wearers and sensitive eyes. It is supposed to help eyelashes naturally.
I blog about products that I think are good deals and good stuff, I am not an affiliate of these products and take no part in its claim. If you like it let me know! If you don't, let me know!
So it's a good deal if it is as good as it claims. SmartLash priced now at $29.95 (plus shipping) instead of $125.00!

[Ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Pterocarpus Marsupium Bark Extract, Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17, Apigenin, Glutamic Acid, Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1, Octapeptide-2, Panthenol, Mannitol, Biotin, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Oleanolic Acid, Disodium Succinate, Sodium Oleate, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Cellulose Gum, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Phenoxyethanol, Chlor Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Citrate, Potassium Sorbate, Disodium EDTA.]

Wait, not without my lip gloss! I am not happy when I discover I don't have chap-stick or lip gloss in my handbag.
Organics Coconut Lip Tint Natural, Vegetarian, Gluten free, Cruelty freeMy favorite Good Stuff lip gloss currently is made by "Organics" I like Coconut. My lips feel very healthy and I can even feel a slight cooling effect. It naturally heals and protects your lips  plus this one has a pretty sparkle look. The scent is coconut, but it does not have flavor. There are other flavors/tints available to try though. I like wearing Organics Coconut Lip Tint gloss over lipstick too. I definitely suggest you give this lip gloss a try!
No Paraben, Gluten, Artificial Fragrances or Dyes, Petroleum Compounds: Mineral Oil, Petrolatum or Paraffin SLS, PEGS, PPG, MEA, DEA or TEA, Glycols, Phthalates
Please remember I am not associated with these products, just like to share with you all good stuff and good deals I think you may enjoy!

The Bold, The Bald and the Beautiful Real Women of OC - Southern California

(by omgg_SceneHair - Photobucket)
Orange County residents definitely have a variety of styles. The year round mostly warm weather and modestly cold weather are part of the reason for the casual looks where many a flip flops can be seen. The city life and nearby LA and celebrities could be the reason for the fashionably fashionable. The punks and goths and emos are also thrown in the mix of those seen here. I myself love to add a touch of all styles, sometimes into one look. How is that possible? Let's see to mix the looks you could fashion: bright red hair, a long black skirt with a bright colored top, and hair with bangs wisped across the forehead. Then there is the surfer look. For women this means wearing flip-flops, shorts and surfer brand tops like, Roxy (the female version of Quicksilver surf brand). There is also a lot of Mexican culture here too. I'd have to say those from Mexico bring their own styles to Southern California, from casual to my favorite: eyeliner accented eyes and bold color fashionable dresses. Most people in OC dress very casual and some strut their stuff in what looks like they just purchased from a model magazine or right off a mannequin. Some dress too skimpy, like short short shorts, that look like "Boyshorts" underwear, and I can't help but think, "Come on put some pants on!" I like short shorts but, make sure the butt is covered and not like swimsuit type coverage. Some are seen, mostly in the Summer months, wearing a bathing suit, or shorts and a bikini top even walking by or in the store, this is not often, but occasionally. It's acceptable, but only when it really is hot enough and you look like you just took a swim or came from the beach, or are actually at the beach. Otherwise, I think again, "Come on, put some clothes on!" Most fashionable or casual women are seen in flip-flops or flats, some in sneakers, though some in totally too high heels. High heeled women can even be seen grocery shopping or walking kids to school- which I assume walking by choice in heels must be for attention or show?

(Chrisac118 - photobucket)
Today I saw a variety of women worth noting. A young mother outside with here little guy wearing lounge wear and flip flops, but still a cute little bow clip in her hair, while just outside her home. Her clothes showed she was lounging today, but her bow said I still look good. Another casual look I saw was a woman walking into the store with a cute little tank dress accented with layers of lace in the front and layered over a tank top, she was pushing a cart with a child. She looked like a pretty casual mother. Coming out of Wal-mart was a beautiful tall woman who wore a long, sleeveless brightly colored floral dress and heels, as I walked by her on my way in Wal-mart, I noticed she also fashioned a pedicure with a design too. All different types of people I notice here in So Cal on a daily basis from casual to fashionably dressy.

(Nail Polish; Love_Cady- Photobucket)
I consider myself some "wear" in between. A little fashion, a little casual, like my jean shorts and a Betsey Johnson top layered over a tank, and medium heeled flip-flops. (Betsey Johnson: my favorite Good Stuff designer ever! For better price deals buy at discount stores like Marshall's or eBay.) I like dressing up to a degree, I don't go out a whole lot, if I did I'd probably dress up more. I also like my nails done, I do them myself, but who has time really, maybe if you don't have kids? Maybe if you have a maid, butler or help of some type. I like to paint my nails usually in black or some color and come up with different designs and this I do very cheaply, cause I do it myself. At the (Good Stuff) Dollar Tree, they have nail polish called Art Deco with all sorts of colors and priced at 1 dollar each, it's easy to have a nice collection. (Tip: heat bottles first to make it easier to apply and the nail polish thinner.) These nail polishes have longer thin brushes for designing. There are stick on nail polish designs also available at some stores, but expensive to keep up. So far I have painted my nails like Zebra (or white tiger) stripes, and I have painted my nails black with red stripes with little heart accents on a couple nails, and my latest creation, black with red hearts, diamond, and even a spade for a "Queen of Hearts"/Poker Hand look. :) Currently, my nails are all half black, cause I am typing more then painting. I am a busy girl! Pampering is not on my list, if I had one, of top priority!

Anyway, back to real OC women, so I  know someone that has just gone through chemotherapy, she has lost her hair and is now waiting for the signs to show that her hair is coming back. Her head wardrobe has primarily been a beanie. Today, I could not help but notice another woman, she was dressed casually in a T-shirt, shorts, and flip flops, stylin shades, make-up and earrings, but, no hair. Not Sinead O'Conner and copycat Britney Spears shaved, but bald. Either she was opting for the look, or she quite possibly was also in the wait for the return of her hair due to chemo. Anyway, I was noticing how bold she was, her head held up straight, and the casualness about her in how she seemed to carry herself as she got a grocery cart and entered the store to do her shopping. She could've opted for a scarf or head wrap like most, a hat or a wig, but she didn't. She was bald and that's the way it was going to be, she seemed to say without saying. Somehow, her baldness made me admire her strength. Could I be that bold? She did have a good shaped head, mines not so shaped well and my ears stick out! If I had to, since I've had bright hair before, my boldness would be brightly colored wigs! I would so rock it!

Keep it real, be your fashionable self, whatever you like. It's not about labeling or wearing the best designer labels either. Us beach city girls don't all look or act the same.

I Can't Afford a Ferrari, The Few Fortunate in OC, California Can

I had to post a silly coincidence; an ironic incident that happened yesterday... I was driving near my home and listening to the radio when some older style song came on, like a blues classic type, I don't know the song or who sang it. Anyway, I don't even know why I was listening to it, other than it just came on. Then I heard the line, "I know I can't afford a Ferrari, but..." and I thought that's funny, cause I see them around here, some people can. Then on the opposite side of the street a red car drives towards me, is that?-Yes, it was a red Ferrari. I saw it right after hearing the lyric from that song. I couldn't help but laugh.

So I decided, as part of my blog I will randomly photograph cool cars that I drive by, this will be fun! I don't care if I can't afford a Ferrari, even if I could afford one, I wouldn't get one. A humble 65 Mustang is my choice- black with cherry red interior... anyone want to donate one they no longer want? Just throwing that out there in case?? Ah well, I can't afford that either right now. One day. In the mean time, I'll admire everyone else's beauty, um, I mean car of course!

No Buses for the Poor in an Orange County Neighborhood

Mister Rogers sang, "I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you. I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you..." He was onto something here and even had a trolly to take "us" around to learn, care and befriend those in his neighborhood. Jesus said, "Love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus also said to the rich tax collector, "sell everything you have and give the money to the poor..." The interesting thing is, this needed to be said. Most people, usually, don't love one another in this way automatically.

In the city of San Clemente, located in southern Orange County, California are low income apartment homes with the slogan, "Housing with Heart". This is a perfect slogan to show compassion and care to the less fortunate that it houses. Even in pricey areas, the less fortunate number is growing higher and higher, especially in the state of California. The same state where government financial and medical assistance for the poor has decreased its benefits. If we know we need to care for our neighbors, especially those that are struggling, in anyway rich or poor, then we ought to do it. These particular low income families live in, what is jokingly referred to as the ghetto of the community. My main question is, are there any neighbors willing to standing up and help with a great current need for transportation. Who will defend the poor in their strife?

"Get a job," they might hear. Easier said then done. The older kids need assistance getting to school, and their parent has to trudge on to find work walking miles to the nearest bus stop, do whatever work they can, and stamper home till their child also comes in tired and hardly ready to start the heaping pile of homework waiting in their heavy backpack. Doesn't sound so easy. The get a job comment needs a little deeper thought. A car pool helps, but should not be a permanent solution. So who will help the needs of these neighbors?

Some are doing their duty to serve others including, churches, food banks, school programs, and government assistance. Yet, I want to know, what neighbors are helping to make a difference? This is a true need now. School is around the corner, the stress and tension for families without transportation for their older children to get to school is building and piling on their shoulders. The local schools are also in a budget crisis. When they are in a budget crisis, the schools can call out to the attending students' parents for donation collections to help with supplies, technology, field trips and so on. Why then, is transportation from this specific low income apartment complex denied? Can't "we the people" seek donations to solve this situation? The people in need of transportation help, question and request help, but are denied due to a fall in the budget.

This low income area is a somewhat remote area with walking distances of approximately 1-4 miles to shopping or schools, and 1 or 2 miles to the nearest public bus stop. This may not sound far, but be sure to include hills in the picture, hot or rainy days and you'll have a better idea. This particular low income complex is housed to some people without transportation due to financial difficulty or other circumstance. For a time, thanks to one man's persistence, or so I've heard, there was a public transportation bus route added to aid the people without a vehicle. This helped the handicapped, single mothers, and low income parents get food and other requirements for their family. This bus route also helped transport students to and from school. This bus also helped people that had a vehicle, but if it was in need of repair, or in the shop, they still go about their day running errands and picking up kids from school. Approximately over a year ago, this public transportation bus route was canceled. It was removed from existence, and along with it's removal, came increased hardships for many families. OCTA (Orange County Transportation Authority) declared this route had to be cut for financial reasons. I am guessing, it was not profitable enough to continue, thus, some families suffer. The result, an empty grocery food shopping cart found miles away at the low income complex.

What about the young students in middle and high school struggling to get to school? For those in the low income apartment homes, as I have mentioned, also do not have school bus routes for the older aged school children. Some school bus routes were part of a budget cut. The budget cuts from the Capistrano Unified School District also have cut back for years, the school bus transportation for middle schoolers and high school students. There was nothing the students or their parents could protest about this.

Many families are thankful to live in housing with heart, yet students and parents are equally concerned about the difficulty of getting to school, returning home from school after a long day, and the walking distance, especially from the high school. Some parents have vehicles, though due to tough circumstances have to leave for work early or do not return until after school lets out. Whichever the circumstantial need is, for these parents and students the desire for school transportation is imperative for their weekly needs and quality of life.

What can be done? Is there any options to solve this transportation crisis for the low income neighbors? If the PTA can raise funds for school needs and functions and if the low income housing complex can raise funds for their programs. Why then, can't parents and students do the same for their needs? Or can they?

Let me know if you have a suggestion, idea or solution! Let's give these neighbors something good! Comment below, or send Alysa Good Stuff an email. alysagoodstuff@hotmail.com Thank you.

We're Not All Rich in O.C. Despite the Rumors

Ferrari California image by anthonyho1990 photobucket.com
Not too many years ago, I did not see Ferraris and Lamborginies in person until recent years when the multi-million dollar homes bombarded the hills. We all don't have money like that. There used to be homes and apartments near the beach even with rents that started at $500.00 and up just a little more than 10 years ago. Currently, those same apartments and other homes are around $1,000.00-$1,800.00 and many much more than that. Recently I heard, that rent is possibly going up, more and more I hear, even from neighbors, that they are out of work and can't find a job similar to what they had.

Life is tough. Someone I know, just told me they did not have rent. Trying to afford the high rent is all to common right now. Orange County, California has very high rents compared to many areas in California or the nation for that matter. You'd think with the high number of those unemployed, small businesses closing, even larger businesses closing, the housing market including rental properties would consider this; instead I believe many believe in the areas value and greed causes them to pocket all the money they can from their properties. Here in Orange County, lowering rent does not seem to be readily considered, especially if you live close to the coastline.
Home in Talega, San Clemente, CA - (Orange County). Many million dollar home sales ended up in foreclosure.
"Foreclosure properties in talega san clemente ca 1" by mikerebroker: photobucket.com

I feel privileged to live here, I am thankful to be in such a gorgeous city that overall is a relatively safe low-crime area. I can't help to think, for how long am I going to be able to afford this lifestyle? Upper-class seems to be doing alright. Though, middle-class seems to be struggling almost as much as the so called lower-class. Honestly, I can't stand the labels. Let's say what it is: the poor, the rich and those in between. Those in between are finding themselves in similar positions as the poor. Some in need that have to apply for government assistance or go to food banks. (If you are one of those in need of any food assistance, search my blog, key word: free food, for information on food banks in Orange County, CA and tips on making food stretch).

Not too long ago, a local bank in my home city now has bullet-proof glass windows inside to talk through when you need to deposit or withdraw money. Growing up here, you never would have thought it. After being robbed repeatedly, it was a precaution they had to take. I'm sure this is the case in many parts of the world. The London Riots is one example. LA has had it's own riots in the past too. Theft is still going on today actually and right here in Orange County. Just this morning, a man robbed 3 banks LA Times: Man Robs 3 OC Banks in 2 Hours

You have to trust in times like these instead of thinking about what you don't have. Worry is worth nothing. Matthew 6:31-33 says: Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

For anyone new to my alysagoodstuff blog I like to blog about fun on literally any budget, and also family activities that build great memories. It doesn't cost to be happy. Actually, you may already know this, as its been said before, "Money doesn't buy happiness.". Notice the little things that do go your way! If your a mom, be happy for the that bit of break you may have gotten from your kids. On a hot day, cheap "Slurpees" or ice cream from 7-11 or your local convenient store can make your kids happy and make you smile for at least 30 minutes. Bike riding is another great free activity, just be safe and wear helmets. Community pools are another good free or cheap activity for giving yourself a break if you have someone to watch your little ones, and also having fun with the kids. Keep an eye out and when no one's at the pool it's like a luxury pool all to yourself. Enjoy your friends, the sunshine and remember to trust, God really does help during tough times. God bless you!

Miss LOST ABC television show? Host a Revisit LOST Party!

I really miss the LOST ABC Television series. There are not many t.v. shows I actually enjoy watching like I did that show! The mystery, the intrigue it gave waiting for that next episode. The friends and family gatherings it inspired. The catch lines from Sawyer, and Kate's urge to treck on through the jungle.  Jack trying to find the leader in himself and Hurley humorously trying to figure himself out. I could go on.

I own all 6 series on DVD. I try to watch them slowly when I "start over" to make it last. A few LOST episodes one week a few another. But, here's an idea. If you truly were I mean are a Lostie... and I realize I am, even though I had a late start (4th season, I know, I know- sad) and you miss the excitement... Start again!

LOST Party Ideas! I have some ideas posted on my blog already go to the search bar on the top of my blog to search Alysa Good Stuff Blog and type lost party. My blogs have tips and ideas for LOST themed parties. I have tips and info for DHARMA food labels and more!

New idea! Host a "Revisit LOST" party... decorate like the island or a DHARMA station, the hatch or your favorite scene from LOST and serve LOST inspired foods and drinks. Then gather around to watch the Pilot episode or as many episodes you want! Make it a LOST day. Sounds fun to me, unfortunately I wish I knew more LOSTIES. Some people got over the fact that LOST is over. I haven't! Maybe the warm weather and beach got to them, or the smoke monster?!?

Anyway have fun!

PS Another fun tip... next time there is a discount on trips to Hawaii... (I post info about discount vacations on this blog too) you could research and Visit - in person this time - some of the actual locations LOST was filmed at... now that's an interesting vacation idea! I believe others have already done it.

What to Do When Your Stuck Inside on a Sunny or Rainy Day

Laguna Beach, CA - photobucket.com: JordanRenee13

I was stuck inside on a nice warm day today and no outside time to play! Summer is running out and I still need more beach days! And swim club days! Sniffles and a cough keeping me inside on a gorgeous day. So I've spent the day writing... and if my laptop had a battery that worked I would bring it out with me. But today, no sunshine :(. On a sunny day when I am stuck inside, I almost feel better if it were gloomy outside. And for those of you that have gloom outside, do your best to turn that gloom into something positive. What? Yeah, really you can. Start by making a list if you can't think of something off the top of your head.

So what could you do at home on a gorgeous day? Open your windows and let the breeze in- and blow the germs out! I did some cleaning, wait, that's not fun. I made yummy gluten-free pancakes, a new recipe I will share soon on my gluten-free blog (http://alysagoodstuffglutenfree.blogspot.com). My kids thought that was great. I popped popcorn for the kids and myself. They watched Speed Racer while I worked on an article I needed to write.

Speaking of which, I have to add my latest "good stuff"news... I am a writer for articles, if you need articles written for low prices, join and you can also check for my profile- "Alysa" to request a direct order. It's a great low cost site to help people with article writing needs. They are based in Las Vegas, NV. but I am pretty sure this is available for people worldwide. I'll blog more about this one in another post http://www.textbroker.com

So anyway, if your feeling sick and stuck inside on a sunny or gloomy day- take a time out to do an indoor hobby. Drawing, writing, cooking even playing solitare is a good way to cheer you up... even clip coupons and think ahead to when it will be sunny and you can save next time you can go out! Make the most of it, but if you truly need to rest, rest! Relax with a book you haven't picked up that you wanted to or pop in a movie. Chins up!
